Avoiding Plateaus
May 17th, 2009
If you have ever tried to lose weight, you have at some point hit a plateau. It is a time when you stop losing weight, despite the fact that you are using the same diet and exercise plan that worked before, and most think that it is a time where they have to start cutting their calories more, exercising more, and that is often how people temporarily get past it. But there are better ways to avoid it happening in the first place.
- Take a cheat meal every 3 days
Cheat meals are basically meals where you get to break the rules. If you do one cheat meal every 3 days or so, you don’t allow your body to slow down or your metabolism to slow down, adjusting to a reduced calorie diet.
- Eat 4 to 6 small meals per day
This allows your body to process the smaller amount of food you take in on a more frequent basis, while keeping your metabolism going at all times and not storing extra calories it does not burn in a shorter amount of time as fat. It is referred to as “grazing”, and you can eat enough throughout the day to also never feel hungry.
- Drink plenty of water
Your body needs 8 glasses of water every day. If you are fulfilling this, it will keep you hydrated and work as a natural appetite suppressant. It also helps your body to function as it properly should.
- Move a little more
If you fidget at your desk or move a little bit more during the day in general, you will actually burn more calories. Those who are overweight tend to move less while they are doing stationary things like watching TV for example.
