The Catabolic Diet
The Catabolic Diet has been referred to as the negative calorie diet, the starvation diet, the fruit and vegetable diet, and a cleansing diet, because it combines these exact types of foods. Is It Healthy?

Yes, the Catabolic Diet definitely has the potential to help you to lose weight, but we find higher failure rates because it is so strict. It requires an extreme lifestyle change.
Are There Side Effects?
We’ve seen plenty of side effects with other diets (mostly low carb diets). The most common side effect we could see is early diarrhea, because you are introducing a lot of fiber into your diet. There are certain medical conditions that would require you to be a little more careful about which fruits and vegetables you choose, but the Catabolic Diet is actually rich in all of the essential nutrients, it covers your bases when you follow their recommendations.
Is the Catabolic Diet For You?
That’s hard to say. Strict and “requires discipline” doesn’t even begin to cover it, and if you have failed on other diets (with the exception of low carb diets), we don’t think that you can handle it. The Catabolic Diet seems pretty healthy, it is made up of a ton of fruits and vegetables, but most see those foods as boring, which makes you less likely to stick to it.
The only diet that seems harder to us would be an organic diet that cuts out all artificial foods, even eliminating some fruits and vegetables (because they are not organic).
